This volume documents the intellectual exchange of the British artist Jaimini Patel and her aesthetic engagement with The Archives of Contemporary Arts and its architecture: Drawn to the sense of absence evoked by the unassigned reading room, further accentuated by its distinctive architecture, the artist felt compelled to consider the empty shelves lining the walls. The ensuing work is a deliberation on the nature of matter, memory and time.

The scientific conference “Julian Schutting - Schreibprozesse. Werk und Material", which took place in autumn 2017 at the Archives of Contemporary Arts in Krems, was devoted to the work of the highly productive author, who has written poetry and prose since the 1970s. The contributions contained in the anthology of the same name deal with intertextual references in Schutting's work, the specific processes of its creation or reflect the special features of a pre-mortem bequest. In addition to the scientific papers of the lecturers, there are also some previously unpublished texts by Schutting as well as a transcribed conversation between the author and his long-time publisher Jochen Jung. An extensive illustrated section offers an insight into the poet's processes of creation and working methods on the basis of selected archival material from the collection.

With contributions by Jochen Jung, Ronald Pohl, Martin Pollack, Christine Rigler, Eva Schulz, Gisela Steinlechner, Wolfgang Straub and Gerhard Zeillinger and unpublished texts by Julian Schutting.

Brigitta Potz (editor): The Contemporary Archive - A Special Collection: Ein Kunst-Forschungsprojekt von Andrea Palasti / An Artistic Research Project by Andrea Palasti. Vienna, Innsbruck: Studienverlag 2018 (The Archives of Contemporary Arts, Special Writings Volume 1). 112 pages, hardcover, with numerous colour illustrations, ISBN: 978-3-7065-5653-8

During her stay as Artist in Residence at Danube University Krems, the Serbian photo artist Andrea Palašti created a conceptual photographic picture series titled „Archives.“ The artist used the Archives of Contemporary Arts and its collection of artistic estates as both the setting and place of discovery for her work.

The exhibition project "The Contemporary Archive - A Special Collection" comprises a series of photographs showing a collection of personal treasures lifted out of their context: On the one hand archival objects, on the other everyday objects that have never been included in the official archives as representative historical objects, yet still occupy their place in the sphere. Information was not chosen deliberately, but collected randomly.

With contributions by Andrea Palašti, Christine Grond-Rigler, Theresia Hauenfels and Gundula Wilscher.

Gundula Wilscher (editor): Vernetztes Werk(en). Facetten des künstlerischen Schaffens von Friedrich Cerha, Vienna/Innsbruck: Studienverlag 2018 (The Archives of Contemporary Arts, Writings Volume 4). 186 pages, hardcover, with numerous colour illustrations, ISBN: 978-3-7065-5661-3

Friedrich Cerha is not only a composer, performer and conductor, but has also created extensive visual work, composed libretti and song lyrics, invented his own spoken language for his stage network and reflected on his works and general questions of cultural life in numerous writings. His artistic works are permeated by an examination of various forms of artistic expression, such as the fine arts, literature and architecture on the one hand, and concepts and models of thought in the humanities and natural sciences on the other.

The first section of this volume contains articles by the lecturers at the symposium; the second section contains a laudation of the composer, two conversations with Friedrich Cerha, and an essay written by the artist himself. An extensive illustrated section shows exhibition views and photographs of selected works of art.

With contributions by Daniel Ender, Anne Fritzen, Hartmtut Krones, Lukas Haselböck, Theresia Hauenfels, Friedrich Cerha.

Christine Grond-Rigler (editor): Zur internationalen Rezeption der Dramen von Peter Turrini, Vienna, Innsbruck: Studienverlag 2016 (The Archives of Contemporary Arts, Writings Volume 3). 300 pages, hardcover, with numerous colour illustrations, ISBN: 978-3-7065-5525-8

Peter Turrini is one of the most important contemporary Austrian playwrights. His works are not only known in the German-speaking world, but have also been translated into over 30 languages and performed at theatres in almost all European countries, as well as on other continents. The transfer of literary texts into other linguistic and cultural areas brings with it a transfer into new contexts of understanding in which country or region-specific parameters are also effective.

The essays in the anthology provide an insight into Turrini reception and theatre culture in nine countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Spain, France) and (with English) in ten languages. These studies are not only interesting for Turrini research, but also reflect, for example, literary canonization processes across language borders and the considerable influence of literature on the emergence of Austrian images in other countries. A comprehensive illustrated section complements the volume with prints of photos, posters and programmes from selected theatre productions.

Matthias Henke, Gerhard Gensch (editors), in collaboration with Gundula Wilscher: Mechanismen der Macht. Friedrich Cerha und sein musikdramatisches Werk, Vienna, Innsbruck: Studienverlag 2016 (The Archives of Contemporary Arts, Writings Volume 1). 304 pages, hardcover, with numerous color illustrations, ISBN 978-3-7065-5196-0

The scale of Friedrich Cerha's stage work is as epochal as it is colorful. The present volume tries to do justice to this. A difficult undertaking, when one considers the diversity and complexity of Cerha's musical language; on the other hand an easy one, since his stage work can easily be placed under one roof, as it all traces the "mechanisms of power", the tension between freedom-hungry individuals and restrictive society.

In this volume, the composer's stage work, among other things, is discussed in more detail. His works "Baal" or "The Pied Piper" are among the works discussed. Other articles are devoted to how Cerha handled texts by the writers Thomas Bernhard and Bertolt Brecht, as well as the role language plays in his works. Performers and dramaturges also report on relevant work experience.

The volume is supplemented by an extensive illustrated section and topic-specific documentation, with materials from Cerha's living estate, which the Archives of Contemporary Arts at Danube University Krems has made available for academic purposes.

Wolfgang Straub (editor): Hans Weigel. Kabarettist-Kritiker-Romancier-Literaturmanager. Vienna, Innsbruck: Studienverlag 2014 (The Archives of Contemporary Arts, Writings Volume 2). 188 pages, paperback, with numerous black and white illustrations, ISBN 978-3-7065-5392-6

There is a unanimous opinion that in Austrian literature, Hans Weigel (1908-1991) was a man who could not be ignored in the decades after the war. Even today, Weigel is still perceived primarily as a literary manager, as a "promoter" of young writers; his publication of the anthologies "Stimmen der Gegenwart" (1951-1956) is part of every literary history.

This volume traces the work of Hans Weigel for the first time on a broad academic basis. Up to then, he had led an existence as a “God be with us” of Bachmann research. On the one hand, the contributions show Weigel's versatile artistic and journalistic activities, from cabaret artist to critic and novelist to literary manager. On the other hand, they deal with Weigel as a contemporary witness, as a symptom, as an important co-creator of the discourses of the Cold War, as an intervener and litigant. On the other hand, with their focus on the post-war period, they offer a portrait of an era in the history of Austrian literature that is still little illuminated.

With contributions by Stefan Maurer, Joseph McVeigh, Doris Neumann-Rieser, Barbara Nowotny, Heide Pils, Evelyne Polt-Heinzl, Peter Roessler, Wolfgang Straub, Daniela Strigl.
